Drama
A production company begins casting for its next feature, and an up-and-coming actress named Rose tries to manipulate her filmmaker boyfriend, Alex, into giving her a screen test. Alex's wife, Emma, knows about the affair and is considering divorce, while Rose's girlfriend secretly spies on her and attempts to sabotage the relationship. The four storylines in the film were each shot in one take and are shown simultaneously, each taking up a quarter of the screen.

Scenes
This strange movie divides the screen into four quadrants, each one of which contains a continuous film with no edits. Part of the plot is that Lauren (Jeanne Triplehorn) places a hidden microphone in the purse of her lesbian lover Rose (Salma Hayek). Rose goes into a ladies' room stall and we can hear a realistic 12-second pee as the camera stays outside the stall and shows only Rose's shadow underneath the stall door. Meanwhile Lauren is shown smiling as she listens in another quadrant of the screen. Given the improvisational nature of this movie and overall lack of special effects, Salma Hayek probably peed for real in this scene. (The DVD release allows you to isolate the audio for each quadrant, making it easier to hear the peeing.)
