The film begins with Viv (Elizabeth Peña) walking through New York on her way home, and it becomes clearer as she nears her apartment that she is in a hurry because she has to pee. She rushes in and picks up the ringing phone, telling the caller to hang on a minute. She then sits on the toilet, with a wall blocking most of her from view, and pees audibly but quietly for about 10 seconds. Meanwhile she talks to her boyfriend, who unfortunately cannot enjoy the moment because he is dead.
